3rd CCP-WSI Hackathon
13-15th July 2026
09:00 am
Streatham campus, University of Exeter
Description and Aim
Following the Introduction to Machine Learning Workshop 2025, a three-day residential event dedicated to AI methods for accelerating multi-physics simulation codes within CCP-WSI applications will be held. The hackathon will bring together selected members of the WSI community to collaborate on coupling computational continuum-mechanics codes, with particular emphasis on AI-driven acceleration of fluid-dynamics solvers.
Participants will receive advanced, hands-on training in the design, implementation, and training of neural networks, delivered by domain experts in scientific machine learning and computational physics. The programme is structured to support the development of sustainable, open-source research software and reproducible workflows, while fostering technical exchange and long-term collaborations across the wider CCP-WSI community.
The event will be hosted by the University of Exeter at the Streatham Campus in Exeter.
CCP-WSI are proud to fund this event, participants need only fund their travel.
Objectives
The main objectives of the event are to:
- bring together researchers working on Wave–Structure Interaction (WSI) problems who are interested in exploring AI-based acceleration strategies for their simulation codes
- promote development and application of a range of neural-network approaches, including Autoencoders (AEs), Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), and Neural Fourier Operators (NFOs)
- encourage collaborative exchange, critical discussion, and refinement of emerging research ideas
- support the development of high-quality, sustainable, and open source coupled WSI software frameworks
- foster new research collaborations and strengthen the scientific impact of participants’ work
- provide contributors with tangible research outputs and increased visibility for their developments within the wider community
Application Process
The 3rd CCP-WSI Hackathon on AI acceleration is free and, for successful applicants, accommodation and food for the duration of the Hackathon is provided by the CCP-WSI (applicants will have to fund their travel to and from Exeter). However, places on the Hackathon are limited and only successful applicants will be invited to join the Hackathon activities in Exeter.
The 3rd CCP-WSI Hackathon is aimed at early career researchers and late-stage PhD students interested in AI acceleration for Offshore Wind Turbine relevant applications. Successful applicants will be working on new features in wave-structure-interaction (WSI) simulations and be willing to share ideas for code improvements and development of new functionality.
To apply for your place at the 3rd CCP-WSI Hackathon please complete the registration form (before midnight on Friday 29th May 2026). The CCP-WSI Working Group will be selecting successful applicants based on the following selection criteria:
- Alignment of research interests with other applicants.
- Willingness to share ideas and work openly and collaboratively.
- Level of programming ability/aspirations, i.e. not too basic but also achievable.
Applicants will be notified via email if they have been successful no later than Friday 12th June 2026.
